Since completing the Facilitator Certification process in The Daring Way™ and Rising Strong™ in 2016, Bella is pleased to offer this unique psychoeducational approach within the weekly Art Journaling for Health and Wellbeing Group, short workshops and/or individual sessions.

The Daring Way™ & Rising Strong™ methods are based on the research of Brené Brown, Ph.D. LMSW. Dr. Brené Brown is a research professor at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work. She has spent the past twelve years studying vulnerability, courage, worthiness, and shame. Her groundbreaking research has been featured on PBS, NPR, CNN, and Super Soul Sunday.
Brené is the author of two #1 New York Times bestsellers; Daring Greatly: How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent, and Lead (2012), and The Gifts of Imperfection (2010). She is also the author of I Thought It Was Just Me (2007), Rising Strong (2015) and Braving the Wilderness (2017). Brené’s 2010 TEDx Houston talk “The Power of Vulnerability” is one of the top ten most viewed TED talks in the world, with over 14 million viewers. Additionally, Brené gave the closing talk at the 2012 TED conference, where she talked about shame, courage, and innovation. Further information is available at www.brenebrown.com

The Daring Way™ is a highly experiential methodology based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown. The method was designed for work with individuals, couples, families, work teams, and organisational leaders. It can be facilitated in clinical, educational, and professional settings. During the process we explore topics such as vulnerability, courage, shame, and worthiness. We examine the thoughts, emotions, and behaviours that are holding us back and we identify the new choices and practices that will move us toward more authentic and wholehearted living. The primary focus is on developing shame resilience skills and developing daily practices that transform the way we live, love, parent, and lead.
Further information is available at www.thedaringway.com.

Rising Strong™ Since Daring Greatly was published, Brené’s team has received emails every week from people who write, “I dared greatly. I was brave. I got my butt kicked and now I’m down for the count. How do I get back up?” What do the women and men who have successfully staggered to their feet after having fallen and found the courage to try again have in common? Every one of them worked through some form of the rising strong process, and they understand what Brené calls The Physics of Vulnerability. These are the rules of engagement for rising strong.

1. If we are brave enough often enough, we will fall; this is the physics of vulnerability.
2. Once we fall in the service of being brave, we can never go back.
3. This journey belongs to no one but you; however, no one successfully goes it alone.
4. We’re wired for story. The brain is wired for story. In the absence of data, we will always make up stories. Meaning making is in our biology, and our default is often to come up with a story that makes sense, feels familiar, and offers us insight into how best to self-protect. The brain rewards whether the story is accurate or not.
5. Creativity embeds knowledge so that it can become practice. We move what we’re learning from our heads to our hearts through our hands.
6. Rising strong is the same process whether you’re navigating personal or professional struggles.
7. Comparative suffering is a function of fear and scarcity.
8. You can’t engineer an emotional, vulnerable, and courageous process into an easy, one-size-fits-all formula.
9. Courage is contagious.
10. Rising strong is a spiritual practice.

The goal of this process is to rise from our falls, overcome our mistakes, and face hurt in a way that brings more wisdom and wholeheartedness. We will be using creative processes and art therapy in a safe peer environment to walk into our stories, recognise and get curious about our feelings and how they connect with the way we think and behave. No prior experience with art making, art therapy or story writing is required. Call 0450070240 to find out more.
